Bubble Boy

June 24th, 2011

Yesterday I took my son to the doctor, because of a stomach issue he’s been having. I took him to a doctor who specializes in children. When we walked in, I was impressed (and a little excited!) – anyone who knows me, knows I haven’t outgrown my inner child. I doubt I ever will …. I like the child I was, and I think staying young is completely a state of mind. My body’s just gonna have to deal with it. SQUIRREL! … Continue reading »

I Shouldn’t Have To Write This…

June 20th, 2011

As I sit down to write tonight, my heart is very heavy. What I am about to write, no one should ever have to write. This may seem to conflict what I posted last night, but I honestly think it goes perfectly together. Today, something happened… Something that really isn’t uncommon, unfortunately… But someone needs to say something, and hopefully this can help at least one person. Some people are going to call me paranoid, but I would rather be called paranoid and help one naive person out there, than sit here and say nothing at all. Because of my personal beliefs on this issue, I can’t sit here silently. So, please listen… especially young people.

Outside These Walls

June 19th, 2011

A few days ago I was sitting at a friend’s house. She has a child. Not small, but not grown. I think he is seven or eight. My son mentioned something about a TV show, and judging by my five-year-old’s taste, it was probably Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Duck Tales, Fraggle Rock or Batman. I didn’t pay attention to what show it was, but my friend’s son had no idea what he was talking about. My friend looked at me like I had killed a kitten and said, “You let your child watch that?! It’s so violent!” Okay, so it wasn’t Duck Tales or Fraggle Rock. One of the others, probably. Continue reading »

Grapefruit and Game Shows

June 17th, 2011

Wheel of Fortune. Call me an old lady, but I love watching the show. I can usually guess the phrases before the contestants can, but I’d never be a contestant… I can’t handle that kind of pressure! I’ve always said that if you want half an hour to pass quickly, watch that show. Seriously! Once in a while, I will grab a grapefruit and plant myself in front of the TV to watch Pat Sajak and Vanna White, with three random contestants. It’s more than a game show to me. And the grapefruit? Well, you’ll see. Family members, grab a tissue.

Fear of Rejection

June 11th, 2011

Vacation Bible School just ended at church. About 100 kids attended, and they were all excited to show up each day to learn about this guy named Jesus. The focus of the curriculum was sharing the Good News. That is, telling people outside the church, about Jesus. Will they go out and tell people in their daily lives about Jesus and what He did for us? Maybe. The younger ones are more likely to do so. The older kids? Probably as excited as they are about what Jesus has done for us, the chances of the name of Jesus being used outside the church walls are much smaller. Why?

What Would You Say?

June 7th, 2011

Think of the people you go to for advice. The ones who listen to you vent about work, relationships, this or that. Who is there with you through thick and thin? Who supports you in any and everything you decide to do, whether it’s possible, or just a dream? Who is there? Who tells you like it is, gives you their honest opinion, whether or not you’re going to like it? If you could list 5 people you trust with different parts of your life, who would they be? What’s with all the questions?! … Hold it. I always have a point… and usually a story to go with it. This time, it’s more of a challenge. Continue reading »

Same Story … Different Person

May 27th, 2011

I often wonder what life was like thousands of years ago … Ya know, Jesus times. I wonder if people thought the same, did the same things (generally) that we do today … I wonder if couples did things, like go on dates — obviously not to a 5-star restaurant, but spent quality time together. I know things were different then, but I often wonder. Did they fight about the same things? … I doubt they fought over phone bills and such, but again, in general. I often wonder. What was it like back then? Continue reading »

Be Aware

May 24th, 2011

Today, I went to the grocery store. I walked the aisles and got the things I needed, then paid for everything and started to walk out the door. As I did this, I saw a girl, probably in her early twenties. She walked past a line of people walking out the door. I was one of them. As she passed me,  her purse hit my arm. Continue reading »

End of the WORLD!

May 21st, 2011

So, I know that everyone is SO sick of hearing about the world ending today. But I couldn’t pass up this opportunity of the “possible” end of the world to bring up an EXCELLENT point. Last night, in the middle of the night, I got a text and a phone call. From different people…. Continue reading »

Inside My Heart

April 26th, 2011

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been told I am too nice, I’d have enough money to take that trip to Australia that I’ve always wanted. However, we aren’t given money every time something is said to us, and that’s unfortunate… But then we would be lazy, and that’s never good. I am willing to share with you the exact reasons I give / forgive / care too much… Continue reading »
